The NS Team

Joanna 许温敏

Founder & Artistic Director

SoCal native Joanna always believed that the richest artistic creations are almost always the result of collaborations. From starting the piano at age five, to learning the cello at twelve, to attaining professional degrees in the musical arts, to entering the world of sound, narration, and voice acting, she always found a way to connect with people outside of her discipline.

Since then, she continued her musical studies while branching out her interest into sound design, audio production, field recording, narration, and voice acting. Her current interests for collaborative projects include creating accessible art, narration accompanied with sounds and music, compositions for cello and electronics, and collaborations with voice actors, choreographers, dancers, and visual media artists.

Rodney DuPlessis

Programs & Development Director

Rodney DuPlessis is a Canadian composer and programmer exploring intersections of science, nature, technology, and music. In his work, he studies processes and patterns from natural and human-made systems to extract latent musicality and visceral sonic narratives. His process incorporates algorithmic and intuitive methods, field recording, software development, sonification, visualization, and microtonality. His creative output includes electroacoustic and chamber music, museum installations, live electronics performances, network music collaborations, and software for sound processing and synthesis. Rodney has collaborated with scientists, musicians, and engineers. He believes that collaboration, especially across disciplines, enriches the creative process and leads to new discoveries and insights.

Elizabeth Hambleton

Marketing and Outreach Director & Arts Writer

Elizabeth Hambleton is a flutist, a sound artist, and a multimedia dabbler originally from outside Seattle and now lives outside of Austin. She likes to make things sonically shiny and visually vociferous, and will sacrifice anything to make a half-decent alliteration or pun. She likes to make interactive soundscapes with video game engines and lofi music with acousmatic sounds. Elizabeth is a massive nerd about information science and wayfinding because she has never had a sense of direction in her entire life but wants to make sure others are equipped to navigate through life.
